Widely recognized as the "last real Chicago blues band" and lauded as a "national treasure" by Living Blues magazine, Slim and his band have been churning out visceral, gut-bucket urban blues for three decades. Propelled by Slim´s slashing guitar lines and booming vocals, the group has perfected a no-frills, unapologetic, straight-no-chaser brand of blues that has made them one of the busiest and best-loved bands on the scene. Their live performances have become legendary, driven by a feral intensity that harkens back to the golden age of postwar Mississippi-to-Chicago blues that spawned modern rock ‘n´ roll.On his newest CD, Blue Magic, Slim paired up with New York postmodern blues producer Popa Chubby.
Popa Chubby's music, forged in the toughness that is New York City, takes blues to the cutting edge, where it highfives its contemporary cousins rock, rap, and hip hop. With his razor sharp, biting guitar, vocals from the gut, and top-notch skill as a songwriter, Popa Chubby artfully combines the rootsiness of blues with the more modern urban elements of today's popular music.
There's a deep and abiding respect between these two artists, resulting from their work together on Blue Magic. After the project was finished, Slim said, "This was the most comfortable I've ever been in the recording studio." Popa Chubby was quoted in the Blues Revue interview, "I've worked on about 25 records, and this is by far the best blues record I've made. And it's for one reason: Slim. He's the real deal, plain and simple."
